13th European Congress of Sport Psychology

The 13th European Congress of Sport Psychology will be organized in Madeira - Portugal between the 12th and 17th of July 2011.

The title of the congress is "Sport and Exercise Psychology: Human Performance, Well-Being and Health" and will be chaired by Sidonio Serpa, Professor at the Faculty of Human Kinetics, of the Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal. It will be organized by the Institute of Sport of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, Faculty of Human Kinetics of Technical University of Lisbon and the University of Madeira under the auspices of the European Federation of Sport Psychology.

Here in the Atlantic Ocean, not too far from the centre of Europe, the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo are situated. The archipelago is famous for its friendly people, exceptional natural beauty and mild climate. Madeira Islands are just a short trip from mainland Europe, to a destination where you can combine holidays on the beach, in the mountains or in the city. Madeira and Porto Santo are the ideal places to relax and restore the balance of mind and body that you need to face the stress of daily life, and of course, attend the 13th European Congress of Sport Psychology.

Obituary:Ema Geron (1920-2011)

Ema Geron was born in Bulgaria in October 13. 1920 and passed away in Jerusalem, Israel on March 11, 2011 at the age of 90. Ema began her academic career at the National Sport Academy in Bulgaria. She served as an Assistant Professor (1948), Senior Assistant Professor (1952), Associate Professor (1955) of sport psychology, and in 1967 was promoted to the rank of a Full Professor, and became the Chair of the Psychology Department in the NSP, Bulgaria. Ema was a pioneer in the sport psychology domain, which was just formally established, and her books on performance psychology published in 1957, 1961, and 1965, were among the first to introduce the newly-borne discipline to the world. During her service in Bulgaria, she has established the first sport laboratory, which was aimed at studying the mental and emotional components related to elite performance. Her scientific achievements were very well recognized, and she became a member of the Ergometry and Gerontology Bulgarian Academy of Science, and President of the Bulgarian Society of Sport Psychology, and Vice-President of the Association of Bulgarian Psychologists.

Obituary

Dear all ISSP members,
We are very sorry to inform you that Dr. Ruy Krebs passed away on December 11 2010, and the funeral was held at the same day.
Dr. Ruy Kerbs was a Professor at the State University of Santa Catarina, the former president of the International Society of Child Studies and the former president of Brazilian College of Motor Behavior. In 2009, he was elected a member of the ISSP Managing Council. Ruy also organized the ISSP-MC meeting in June 2010. Few weeks ago, he was elected the "Best Professor" in the department of PE & Sport at the State University of Santa Catarina, and he was designated one of the ten most influencing personalities in Brazilian Physical Education some months ago.
Although we lost a sport psychology beacon, his spirit and initiatives not only have been tremendously influential on us, but they will continue to inspire future generations in sport psychology.

Obituary

Prof. Dr. Hermann Rieder  3.5.1928 -22.8.2009  
For the international sport science community and sport psychology colleagues from all over the world Hermann Rieder was a blessing. In the constitutional phase of the International Society of Sport Psychology (ISSP), he contributed significantly to the advancement of the Society, to the advancement of sport psychology as a discipline, and as a global player to intercultural communication and understanding among colleagues, coaches, and athletes. When he passed away Saturday morning, August 22nd, our scientific community lost a sport psychology beacon. However, his spirit and initiatives not only have been tremendously influential on us, but they will continue to inspire future generations in sport psychology.
